  Skills and Hopes Stitched Together
with Small Loan

Purity was unemployed and struggling to have enough money to buy food and pay school fees for her young son. So, with her mother’s encouragement, she joined the Muthaara Trust Group in Thika, Kenya, and began saving money. Six months after joining the group, she had saved $86 and qualified for a loan of $257.

She took the loan and used it to purchase a new sewing machine and materials to start a dress-making business in Thika. Purity has a certificate in dress making, which gives her an edge over the local competition. She has taken advantage of the readily available market in her town for well-made garments. She now has a weekly income of $49! Purity continues to save and has hopes of owning her own home.Read More

Here's How You Can Help Haiti
We ask for your prayers for those who have been affected by the terrible tragedy in Haiti. Our hearts and prayers go out to those impacted. Although Five Talents does not have a program in Haiti, our partners -- the Episcopal Diocese of the Dominican Republic and Esperanza -- are hard at work helping their neighbors on the other side of the island.  They have appealed to us to let you know of their efforts.

“A good portion of the relief going into Haiti will go in through the Dominican Republic and much of it will be purchased there.  Food, medicines and other supplies are readily available in the DR.  Bishop Julio Holguín is channeling emergency relief to help his sister Haitian Church through the Dominican Episcopal Church -- first with emergency relief and later to help with rebuilding.”

Five Talents recommends the following organizations during this time of crisis:
The Dominican Development Group
Episcopal Relief and Development
Anglican Relief and Development

Five Talents will send any donations received for relief to one of those three organizations. Continue to lift up in prayer those on the ground working night and day to provide relief in the weeks to come.
