More than 36% of Bolivia’s 12 million residents live below the national poverty line. In indigenous communities, women and young people are particularly vulnerable to poverty and food insecurity in this landlocked South American country.
Bolivia has significant income inequality, with socioeconomic variances most pronounced between ethnic populations and geographic areas, and it ranks 120th out of 192 countries on the United Nations Development Programme’s Human Development Index (2024).
Five Talents has worked with Seeds of Blessing in Bolivia since 2009. Seeds of Blessing supports communities as they restore relationships, build their skills, and develop businesses which transform their families. The program facilitates small business development through community financial services and business skills training in Tarija and its surrounding communities.
Participants join small Savings Groups and receive training in budgeting, saving, cost of credit, business planning, nutrition, and discipleship. Members learn together how to invest and grow their businesses, and through savings and loans, members can improve their businesses and cover their basic food, health, education, housing, and business needs. Currently, more than 230 families are part of the program, and 75% of them describe the biggest changes in their lives as a result of their savings.
Over the years, we’ve discovered a wealth of treasure in the Parable of the Talents. That’s why we’ve prepared this free guide to Matthew 25, featuring reflections from pastors and Christian leaders.
