In rural areas of Kenya, limited access to basic infrastructure has reduced access to education, medical care, and employment opportunities — particularly for women.
Across the communities where we work in Kenya, wide financial discrepancies remain. Baringo, for example, is among the most marginalized counties in Kenya: more than 52% of residents live below the extreme poverty line. Agriculture is the backbone to local economies, but is vulnerable to extreme weather conditions which can force households even deeper into poverty. Access to a safe place to save, and skills to diversify into non-agricultural businesses, can transform lives.
Five Talents launched in Kenya in 2006 with just 13 Savings Groups in Thika. As of 2024, across Kenya, we have over 10,000 Savings Group members. Groups provide members with training and basic financial services so they have a safe place to save and access to small loans, which gives families a safety net in difficult times and allows them to increase their income so that they have more to spend on essential needs such as nutritious food, healthcare, and education for their children.
Five Talents Kenya, based in Nairobi, is a central resource hub, providing training to our Kenyan partners as well as partners throughout East Africa.
Over the years, we’ve discovered a wealth of treasure in the Parable of the Talents. That’s why we’ve prepared this free guide to Matthew 25, featuring reflections from pastors and Christian leaders.
