When Spelling Clicks: Literacy and Financial Inclusion

My maiden name is Robarge. When I was first learning how to write it, I often misspelled it because I'd mix up lowercase b’s and d’s. I remember my parents patiently sitting with me and coming up with ways that would help me keep these two letters straight. Then one day, it finally clicked and I was no longer Sarah Rodarge!

Literacy and Empowerment

Literacy training in South Sudan

We use the word ‘empowerment’ a lot when talking about our work because it’s such an important impact of Five Talents programs. When skills like reading, writing and counting click, women like Rose are even more motivated to continue working hard so they can save money, start small businesses and provide opportunities for their kids that they never dreamed possible. I hope her story inspires you.

With joy,
