When You Leave Your Kayak Paddles at Home

...You improvise!

Kayak paddles and community development

A Surprising Journey

This time last week, I was visiting a girlfriend from college. The weather was perfect for several outdoor activities, including kayaking. While the lack of humidity was ideal, our planning was not - hence why we found ourselves standing at a state park beach only to realize our paddles were still at the house. Over an hour away. You’d be surprised how effective two sticks and a trash bag can be as a makeshift paddle.

Community and Development

The laughter, good conversation and memories made on this trip will not soon be forgotten. It filled me with that sense of community that many of us have longed for during this time of quarantine. Community is one of the backbones of Five Talents savings groups. Neighbors meeting together, learning together, sharing together and building trust. Community is powerful for us and for our partners around the world. In this week’s video, Bolivia Program Coordinator, Eva Mamani shares how her community is being transformed in ways that go far beyond basic needs.

Have you been encouraged by these videos? Or have you been able to use them in some way with your congregation? Please let me know, I’d love to hear from you.

With joy,
