In the US our holidays have changed a lot. This used to be a pretty slow time of the year when we eat “too much” on Thanksgiving and just spend time with family.
Now the retailers have REALLY taken advantage of the “season of giving” and transformed parts of it into the “season of giving to ourselves.” I even heard a radio advertisement yesterday about the 12 bargains of Christmas.
So, let’s recapture the reason for the season. Let’s focus on the gifts we have, including our families. And tomorrow, on Giving Tuesday, please give generously.
I hope you give to Five Talents because I believe strongly that we use your gifts wisely to help the poorest of the poor. But give to others, too, because there are many ways to share God’s gifts with others.
