A few days ago, we received a donation from the 5th and 6th grade Sunday School classes of one our church partners. This very touching gift of $134 came from their recent Market Day.
The Younger Generation Sets Up Shop
Market Day is a project included in our Five Talents Sunday School curriculum that we offer churches. Over several weeks students learn about the Parable of the Talents, poverty, and how our ministry works, through the eyes of a real-life savings-group member. The people described on 'scenario cards' come to life as the students learn how these women and men are able to start their own small businesses. The grand finale - Market Day! And these 5th and 6th graders set up shop, literally. Parishioners stopped by their setup outside the church and donated to Five Talents while also learning about our ministry.
It makes me smile anytime I see someone excited about this ministry. But to hear about these elementary school kids playing an active role in helping out was such an encouragement to me, and I pray it is the same for you as you start this week.
The generosity of these children is also a wonderful reminder that God is at work when our hearts are softened to the condition of those most marginalized and forgotten. Truly, every gift, no matter the size, is a blessing and makes a difference in changing the trajectory of a life toward hope and restoration.
Until next Monday morning,
